Reconstruction works in the village on the banks of the Ahr river are still ongoing, and many houses had to be torn down. On the evening of July 14, 2021, heavy flooding of the Ahr river following ongoing rainfalls all over Central Europe caused severe damage. Many houses near the river banks collapsed or were rendered uninhabitable. In Germany, at least 186 people were killed, with the Ahrweiler district being affected the most.
